Access, security, and architecture questions

How do we login to Enterprise Insights? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

You will need your corporate network IP address range to be allowlisted on your Enterprise Insights instance by Atlassian. Please get in touch with your Technical Account Manager (TAM) or Enterprise Advocate (EA) for assistance.

There are two authentication options available: Azure Active Directory (AD) authentication and SQL login (username and password provided by Atlassian).

Azure AD authentication is recommended due to it being more secure. If you are using Azure AD, your Azure AD tenant must be enabled for guest authentication tenant access to allow authentication with Enterprise Insights. You can learn more on Microsoft’s website here.

Does Enterprise Insights support single sign-on (SSO) or two-factor authentication (2FA)? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

No, Enterprise Insights does not support SSO or 2FA. However, Enterprise Insights does support Azure Active Directory (AD) authentication, which supports SSO and 2FA. You can learn more about Azure Active Directory single sign-on here.

Can we connect to Enterprise Insights with ODBC? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Yes, you can connect to Enterprise Insights via standard ODBC SQL client over TCP 1433. We recommend connecting using Azure Active Directory (AD) authentication as it’s more secure.

What encryption is used to secure data traversing from Jira Align in AWS to Enterprise Insights in Azure? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

All Azure Databases are firewalled to only allow connections with TLS 1.2 encryption. For our ETL processes, we also restrict the CIPHER used on the client side to an Atlassian approved list.

What encryption is used to secure data at rest in Enterprise Insights? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Data is encrypted at rest by default using Azure’s transparent data encryption (TDE). Azure’s TDE uses the AES-256 encryption algorithm. Documentation on Azure’s TDE encryption is available on Microsoft’s documentation site.

What security is used to protect data in-transit from Enterprise Insights to a Microsoft SQL compatible client? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Enterprise Insights is an Azure SQL Server database that enforces SSL/TLS 1.2 encryption at all times, for all connections. Microsoft recommends that, in your Microsoft SQL compatible client, you specify an encrypted connection and do not trust the server certificate.

Do I have the ability to self-manage the firewall rules (allowlisting IP addresses) for my Enterprise Insights instance? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

No, this is currently not available. To make changes to your firewall rules, open a ticket with our Jira Align support team and they will assist you with your request.

The default firewall solution (allowlisting IP addresses) does not comply with my org's security policies. Is there an alternative? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Yes. Jira Align virtual private cloud (VPC) customers who have upgraded their Enterprise Insights to a dedicated private resource group in Azure have one of two options available to them. If they have an Azure presence, they can choose to use Azure private links to connect to their data. Otherwise, they can choose to use a route-based virtual private network (VPN).

Where does my Enterprise Insights data reside? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

For data residency information, please check out the Jira Align SOC2 document, which can be downloaded from our Trust center.

Is Enterprise Insights hosted on a multi- or single-tenant environment? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Enterprise Insights is hosted on a multi-tenant environment. For Jira Align VPC customers, we offer dedicated private resource group in Azure that can also be set up at an extra cost.

Is Enterprise Insights offered on VPC? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Yes, although Azure does not have the same concept of VPCs. We are able to isolate your Enterprise Insights instance by deploying it into a private resource group where all of their components are unique to that resource. The only thing that is shared is Active Directory which is at the tenant level.

Can TLS/SSL be enabled on Enterprise Insights to enforce the mandate of certificates for connecting and validation? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

No, Azure SQL server does not support client certificate authentication where the server requires the client to present a certificate.

Is there a UI or web-based service for Enterprise Insights? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

No, Enterprise Insights is an Azure SQL database that is a non-web based service.

Does Enterprise Insights have DDoS protections? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Yes, Azure SQL (which hosts the Enterprise Insights database) has built-in DDoS protection. For more information, check out Microsoft’s DDoS protection response guide.
