Migrate to cloud (recommended)

By partnering with Atlassian on their move to cloud, customers have seen lower costs, reduced risk of downtime and security issues, and can focus on innovation over maintenance. To quickly compare costs and see your recommended path to cloud based on your server products, use our personalized recommendation tool.

Migrate to Data Center

For server customers who can’t move to cloud yet due to company mandate or need a multi-year transition, we recommend migrating to Data Center. To understand the benefits of Data Center and how to plan for a migration, start by visiting our migration center.

Continue on server or Data Center

With three years of server support and continued investment in Data Center, you have time to make your decision and develop a migration plan based on your requirements and our roadmap.

How long will you continue to offer Data Center? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Atlassian has no plans at this time to end of life Data Center products. We understand that some customers have have business requirements that might prevent you from operating in cloud.

For these customers, we’ll continue to offer Data Center and invest in new capabilities shared through our Data Center roadmap. We will continue to build out the roadmap beyond the timelines currently published when we have new updates to share.

We recommend that customers who have requirements that currently prevent them from moving to the cloud watch our cloud roadmap to find out whether we’re working on the feature they need. If the feature a you need won’t be delivered before the end of support for Atlassian server products, we recommend moving to or staying on Data Center.

For all customers

With three years before the end of support, you have plenty of time to evaluate our cloud offerings, coordinate internally, and prepare – there’s no need to act immediately.

If you can’t yet move because you’re waiting for a particular feature or compliance certification, we’re committed to delivering new features and improvements faster in cloud, and you may find we’re delivering on your requirements soon.

Take a look at our cloud roadmap and the Trust Center for additional information on compliance and security for Atlassian cloud products, and how our teams are expanding coverage to help you meet compliance needs.

Frequently asked questions

What are my options today as a Data Center customer?

While these changes are designed to support your organization’s long-term success, we also understand that transitions like this can be challenging.

At this stage, your options are:

1. Migrate to cloud

Moving to cloud enables you to connect your tech teams with the rest of your organization to accelerate innovation, welcome AI to the team, and maximize team impact on the business.

The Atlassian Migration Program can help you assess your landscape, plan ahead, prepare your data, and test the migration before making the move to cloud. Additional guidance includes:

We highly recommend engaging directly with your Account Executive if you haven’t already begun to do so.

We have dedicated teams of Atlassians and a wide selection of highly specialized solution partners available to assist you with hands on support to plan for your migration and set yourself up for success in the cloud. Please reach out to us to get started.

2.[Bitbucket customers only] Move to the new Bitbucket license option

We understand that your source code is sensitive, and you may have concerns about moving it to the cloud. In order to provide you with maximum flexibility for this data, we are launching a new Bitbucket license option that will give you access to both Bitbucket Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud, giving you the flexibility to operate in whichever environment your business prefers.

At the conclusion of your existing Bitbucket Data Center license and upon renewal to the Bitbucket dual-license, your self-managed source code will remain right where it was on your Bitbucket Data Center subscription. You can learn more about this offering here.

3. Continue on Data Center for up to 3 years

Ultimately, in order to continue using Atlassian products, you will need to move to cloud. We understand that some customers have requirements that are not currently available in Atlassian cloud and will need flexibility in their timelines. To ensure work is not interrupted, we will allow some customers to purchase multi-year Data Center extensions beyond March 28, 2029 by exception only. Please contact your Account Executive or reach out to Atlassian to discuss migration options.

You can also start benefiting from the innovation in Atlassian Cloud with cloud to Data Center connectors for Rovo and Atlassian Guard Premium. Or, get an overview of your whole existing portfolio to prepare for a cloud migration with Portfolio Insights.

We recommend starting to explore cloud as soon as possible to allow for enough time to prepare for a smooth transition. See what’s new and what’s coming in cloud on our cloud platform roadmap.

How can I prepare myself and my organization to migrate to cloud?

To get started learning about the migration process, read our in-depth migrations guidance online.

If you have over 1000 seats you need to migrate, we recommend exploring our FastShift program, which provides hands-on migration support to accelerate your migration. To learn more about FastShift, reach out to your Atlassian Account Executive.

For large enterprises with 5000 or more users looking to enhance their system of work on Cloud, learn more about how Advisory Services can help you strategize, plan, and execute a transformation most aligned to your company's business objectives.

As you’ll see in our guidance online, the first step to a successful migration is assessing your business and technical requirements. Atlassian and/or a Solution Partner can help capture your business needs, compliance requirements, and key outcomes.

For technical requirements, we have automated tooling available for you to run on your instances called Portfolio Insights, which will ensure a smooth journey to cloud. Knowing how your team uses Atlassian and what your current footprint looks like will help you hit the ground running.

What if I can't move to cloud yet?

Over the past few years we’ve expanded our Cloud Platform, apps and feature set to meet the needs of more organizations. If you haven’t spoken with anyone about Atlassian Cloud recently, we recommend exploring our Cloud Platform vs Data Center comparison page or check out our cloud roadmap, as it may well be that we have added or plan to add support for your requirements. You can also visit our Trust Center to learn the latest on security, compliance, and resilience.

We understand that some organizations require specific cloud deployment alternatives to meet data sovereignty requirements, to handle classified data, or to meet other compliance needs. We are committed to partnering with you to meet your needs over the next three years. For example, we've recently announced support for cloud deployment models outside of our commercial multi-tenant cloud - this will lay a foundation to help us offer other deployment options in the future. With this in mind, we are currently exploring options for organizations with more complex requirements.

We are committed to developing solutions that meet the needs of all customers. We encourage you to engage with your Account Executive directly so that we can ensure our product roadmap meets your needs. We understand that some organizations face unique challenges or requirements that may delay their move to the cloud. For these situations, we’re committed to offering extended maintenance for certain Data Center customers by exception after March 28, 2029, ensuring you have the flexibility and support you need for a successful transformation. Please reach out to us to discuss migration options.

What’s on your roadmap for cloud?

What are some new features and innovations in cloud?

Our investment in cloud has been accelerating over the past few years. In fact, we shipped more than 1,000 new features for cloud in 2024, at a rate of 8,000 deployments per month, vastly accelerating our delivery of innovation value for all customers.

Atlassian Cloud allows you to replace disconnected products with a powerful AI-powered platform that aligns teams, and empowers them with the knowledge and technology they need to stay ahead of what’s next.

On cloud, you can align work to goals, plan and track work, unleash knowledge, and add AI team to the team to drive greater alignment, data utilization, and productivity. Consolidate teamwork and all data related to teamwork onto one intelligent platform that brings consistency and context to your whole teamwork experience.

In cloud, you can unlock entirely new use cases. You can:

  • replace meetings with Loom
  • collaborate visually with whiteboards
  • hand over tasks to AI agents with Rovo
  • drive greater alignment with platform apps like Goals, Teams, and Home
  • unify and intelligently connect data across all your apps – whether it’s your Atlassian, Marketplace, or other preferred apps in a single shared data model called the Teamwork Graph

And there’s lots more on the way. A major reason we’re sharpening our focus on cloud is to accelerate our innovation and provide you with a world-class cloud experience.
